1. Payment of driving lessons:
Lessons can be paid for by cash, cheque (made payable to R. Watson) or bank transfer, details of which will be made available to those who wish to use this service. Gift vouchers are also available at the introductory lesson price. Lesson prices are subject to change, of which due notice will be given.
2. Block Bookings and Intensive Courses
Must be paid for in advance to receive a discount. Once an intensive driving course is booked and paid for direct with the instructor, either in person or over the telephone no refund of the payment will be returned to the purchaser, the booking is a binding contract between the instructor and pupil which we have booked and accepted as a booking with the instructor. Receipts signed by the instructor can be supplied at the pupil’s request.
3. Driving Licence and Fitness to Drive
You must hold a current, valid driving licence, provisional, full or international and produce it on at least your first training session. You must be fit to drive with regard to legal and medical requirements. Please ensure you can read a number plate, from 20.5 metres away (with the assistance of glasses if necessary) before taking your first lesson as the instructor’s first task will be to test this (as will your Driving Examiner).
4. Lesson Cancellations
Must be made 24 hours before the time of the lesson or the normal lesson fee will be charged, unless a doctor’s certificate can be produced. This ensures that times that are made available in the diary of the instructor can be filled with some notice for other pupils to be able to use, as there is often a ‘reserve’ list. The instructor reserves the right to cancel a lesson at short notice if it is suspected that the pupil may be unfit to drive due to the effects of alcohol, drugs (prescribed or otherwise) or any other condition that would cause his/her driving to be illegal. In such circumstances the lesson fee will be payable. The instructor reserves the right to postpone lessons in certain circumstances i.e. dangerous weather conditions, mechanical breakdown or illness. In the event of postponement, fees paid in advance will be carried forward.
Furthermore, it is the pupil’s responsibility to ensure that they have made confirmation, if necessary, with the instructor of their lesson schedule as no correspondence relating to non-payment due to misunderstandings will be entered into. All pupils will receive a record card at the beginning of their course, charting their progress with specific skills on one side and a list of their booked sessions on the other. It is the pupil’s responsibility to note these times, either directly from the card (as booked at the end of each session in the training vehicle) or via their own means. Any failure to follow these terms may result in potential legal action.
5. Driving Tests
The instructor reserves the right to withdraw their car for tests without notice should the pupil prove not to be of a test standard. While your instructor will make every effort to ensure that the vehicle supplied for test will be fully roadworthy and comply with all legal requirements at the start of the test, he/she cannot be held responsible for vehicle failure that occurs during the test and is not liable for consequential loss. The instructor cannot be held responsible for test appointments cancelled by the DVSA due to bad weather, sickness, staff shortages or other reasons. Such cancellations are beyond the control of the instructor and therefore the lesson fee and 'use of car' fee for the booked period will be charged. The instructor/Driving Examiner will advise you about claiming compensation from the DVSA.
